Foreign fund inflows hit record Rs 2.7 lakh cr in FY'15

The cumulative net investments by foreign investors have gone past the 11 lakh crore rupees mark, with around 2.7 lakh crore rupees being infused into the Indian capital markets during the last financial year alone. As per the latest data with the Central Depository Services, foreign investors made a net investment of 1.1 lakh crore rupees in equities in 2014-15 and 1.6 lakh crores into debt markets. This has taken their cumulative net investments into the Indian equity markets, since being allowed over two decades ago, to 8.2 lakh crore rupees. The cumulative figure for debt securities since 1992 has also grown to 3.04 lakh crores taking the total for overall Indian markets to 11.2 lakh crore rupees.Market analysts attributed the huge inflow to the reform measures taken by the government, expectation of a strong revival in economic growth and falling interest rates.Experts also believe that inflows will remain equally strong or become even better in the current fiscal year in view of Parliament clearing key bills as well as assurances in the Budget for controversial tax areas like General Anti-Avoidance Rule.
