Forces will continue to respond to Left Wing Extremists :Rajnath

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said the security forces will continue to respond to the designs of Left Wing Extremists with a firm resolve and contribute wholeheartedly towards their elimination. Making a statement in the Lok Sabha today on the recent attack on security forces at Sukma in Chattisgarh, in which 12 CRPF personnel lost their lives leaving two injured, he said the security forces have registered unprecedented success in 2016 against the Left Wing Extremists in all affected states. Mr Singh said the extremists will continue to attempt to violence to restore the flagging morale of their cadres and asserted, the security forces would counter them effectively.<br/><br/>He offered his condolences to the families of the victims of the Sukma incident saying their sacrifices would not go in vain. Mr Rajnat Singh said the kin of the martyrs would get 35 lakh rupees from the Centre as ex-gratia, 20 lakh rupees from the CRPF Risk Fund, 1 lakh rupees from the CRPF Welfare Fund, 25 lakh rupees as insurance benefits and 3 lakh rupees as ex-gratia from the Chattisgarh government. He also announced that the next of kin of the killed CRPF personnel will be provided full salary till their age of retirement under the Liberalized Pensionary Award.<br/><br/>The Home Minister listed out the indicators to the success of the operations against Left Wing Extremism saying, the number of extremists killed last year increased by 150 percent from 89 in 2015 to 222 in 2016. Surrenders and arrests of the Left Wing Extremists registered a combined increase by 47 per cent over 2015 from 2238 people to 3282. He added, 67 percent of encounters and exchange of fire resulted in neutralization of the extremists last year as against 36 percent in the previous year. He informed the House that the strength of extremists in the South Bastar districts that are considered to be the nucleus of Left Wing Extremism witnessed a considerable fall in violence last year as they suffered unprecedented losses.<br/><br/>The Home Minister however stressed for introspection on the Sukma incident and said he had directed the Director General of the CRPF to conduct a detailed enquiry into it so that any lapses could be identified to avoid repetition of such incidents in future.<br/><br/>
