Football World Cup: Denmark defeat Peru 1-0 in Russia

In the Football World Cup, Denmark defeated Peru 1-0 at Mordovia Arena of Saransk in Russia today. Yussuf Poulsen scored the solitary goal to give Denmark a winning start to their World Cup campaign.

It was a heartbreak for Peru as Christian Cueva missed the penalty in the first half as both the side remained goalless in the first-half. Peru has returned to the World Cup after 36 years.

Earlier, France defeated Australia 2-1 in their Group C campaign at Kazan today. After remaining nill till half time, Antoine  Griezmann converted a penalty into a goal giving the france 1-0 lead  against Australia. That was coolly equalized by a goal by Aussie Mile Zedinak. Paul Pagba of France did a victory goal at 80th minute. France are seeking their second World Cup title after victory at home in 1998. 

In another encounter today, on their debut in the FIFA World Cup Iceland hold Argentina to 1- 1 draw. Sergio Aguero scored a superb opener for Argentina and Alfreð Finnbogason levelled for the Iceland just minutes later.

In the Group D game slated to begin at half past midnight, dark horse Croatia will take on African powerhouse Nigeria at Kaliningrad.  

Tomorrow, Costarica will take on Serbia in a  group E  encounter at 5.30 PM while Germany will clash with Mexixco in a Group F match at Luzhiniki Stadium in Moscow. In an another group E  match  Brazil will take on Switzerland at 9 PM.
