A day after the rush hour stampede at a Mumbai station claimed 22 lives, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal convened a meeting of full Railway board today afternoon at the Western Railway's headquarters at Churchgate.<br/><br/>PRO, Western railways informed AIR about the decisions in Railway board officials meeting. He said that Foot Over Bridges, platforms and pathways on the platform end will now be treated as Safety items having highest priority with no restriction of budget.<br/><br/>For next 18 months, GMs have been delegated powers without limit for Safety related issues. Additional Escalators have been sanctioned at stations of the Mumbai Suburban system having high footfall.<br/><br/>CCTV cameras will be provided in all suburban services EMU coaches in Mumbai area with fees given to the guard of the train in next 15 months.<br/><br/>Field units will be significantly augmented. At least 200 officers will be relocated from HQrs and Railway Board to the field areas to strengthen operations and project implementation.<br/><br/>At least 22 people died and over 30 were injured in the stampede that took place yesterday on a narrow foot-over-bridge (FoB) that connects the Elphinstone Road on the Western Railway to Parel on the Central line.
