Foot-and-mouth disease in South Korea

In South Korea, cattle at a local farm tested positive for foot-and-mouth disease today, a day after the outbreak of the disease was discovered at two pig farms in the vicinity. The newly infected farm is located about eight kilometers away from the pig farms with confirmed cases of foot-and-mouth disease in North Gyeongsang province. Cattle at the infected farm have already been culled and domestic animals within a 500-meter radius of the farm are facing a cull in an effort to prevent the spread of the disease. The latest outbreak of the disease in South Korea came two months after the country was cleared free of the disease by the World Organization for Animal Health in late September.
