Draft legislations to ensure food security and deal effectively with the menace of corruption are expected to come up for discussion in the Cabinet meeting.
The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh made it clear while coming back home from Russia that the cabinet will take up the proposed Lok Pal bill in the meeting Sunday evening.
To deal with the menace of corruption the cabinet has already approved judicial accountability and whistle blowers bill apart from a separate legislation about citizen’s charter.
The Consumer Affairs Minister K.V. Thomas has said that Food Security Bill is also expected to get the cabinet nod. The discussion on Food Security Bill remained inconclusive in the last cabinet meeting. Both the legislations are expected to be tabled in Parliament in the coming week.
The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has asserted that government will make all possible efforts to pass the bill in the current session. He said there should be no doubt about the sincerity of the government.
The food security bill has been discussed by the National Advisory Council led by UPA Chairperson Mrs Sonia Gandhi. The council has made a number of recommendations to be incorporated in the bill.
