Food processing sector in the country is growing faster than agriculture and manufacturing sectors and has huge potential of creating jobs in the rural areas. Inaugurating the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management -NIFTEM at Kundli in Haryana, Mr. Pawar said that the sector has also the potential to enrich the supply chain by adding value to the agriculture produce, reducing and eliminating wastages and preserving the produce . He said that the country has exported one lakh 86 thousand crore rupees worth of agriculture produce so far this year.
In his address, Minister of Water Resources, Harish Rawat expressed hope that NIFTEM will bridge the serious shortage of skilled manpower in this sector. Minister of State for Agriculture, Tariq Anwar and Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupendra Singh Hudda were also present on the occasion.
AIR correspondent reports that the new institute will offer high quality education, research and management programme specific to the food industry.
