Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said the growth in FDI in the sector will directly or indirectly help about 25 lakh farmers and generate employment for 5 lakh people. Speaking at a roadshow held in Hyderabad today on the 'World Food India: 2017', to be held in Delhi later this year, she said the food processing sector has attracted FDI to the tune of 183 million dollars during last two months. She said there has been 40 per cent increase in the food processing sector after allowing 100 per cent FDI in multi-brand retail. The minister said funds to a tune of 6,000 crore rupees are being put in by the food processing ministry under the Sampada Yojana which will leverage an investment of about 31,000 crore rupees. She said it will enable processing agri produce of over 330 million tons to a value of about one lakh crore. She added that it will help increasing food processing capacity of the country by 5 per cent and help about 25 lakh farmers and provide employment to 5 lakh more people.
