To create awareness and capacity building on Safe and Hygienic food for all, Mr Ram Vilas Paswan, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution today launched a national campaign Surakshit Khadya Abhiyan.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion he said, Food security act is first step in addressing the food requirements and this new abhiyan is the second step as it ensures the safe food to consumers. He said the growing number of cancer cases is due to food adulteration, and the success of this scheme will reduce the instances of adulteration by 50%.<br/> <br/>Mr Paswan talking to industry representatives urged them to change their packing styles in order to help consumers in reading the product specifications such as expiry date & ingredients. <br/><br/>Minister also said, soon his ministry will make some changes to consumer protection laws as to allow class compensation, Where not only the complainer is paid for faulty service, but also other consumers will be paid compensation even they do not file complaint with consumer court.
