Food inflation reduces by 0.08 pc

Food inflation reduced marginally by 0.08 percent to 16.22 per cent for the week ended March 13. It was 16.30 per cent in the preceding week. The food inflation eased even though prices of certain items such as pulses and vegetables continued to rise. While moong and pork became dearer by 5 per cent each, urad price shot up by 4 per cent, vegetables by 2.63 per and coffee increased by 2 per cent during the week. However, masoor prices slipped 4 per cent and there was a fall of one per cent each in the prices for eggs, bajra, maize, condiments and spices. While food inflation is at a four-month low, the overall inflation has been relentlessly rising and was at 9.89 per cent in February. The rise in overall inflation has been mainly attributed to high food inflation and the recent hike in fuel inflation.
