Food inflation fell to a single-digit after four months, sliding to an 18-month low of 8.6 per cent for the week ended November 20, as prices fell on kharif crop arrivals in the market. Food inflation, which has declined for seven weeks in a row, had stood at 10.15 per cent for the week ended November 13. On an annual basis, for the week ended November 20, prices of pulses fell 10 per cent, while vegetables became cheaper by 3 per cent, on account of a sharp dip in potato prices, which declined by almost 43 per cent. Wheat prices fell 3.16 per cent. However, food items like eggs, meat and fish rose 15.58 per cent. Onions became more expensive by 16.86 per cent, on an annual basis, and rice by 1.84 per cent. Prices of fruits rose 19.27 per cent and milk 17.76 per cent, on a year-on-year basis.
