Food inflation has declined marginally by 0.2 per cent. It came down to 16.24 per cent for the week ended September 25 from 16.44 per cent in the previous week. Improved supplies and declining prices of certain vegetables, especially potatoes were the cause for the fall. The price of potatoes fell by 50 per cent.Data showed that on an annual basis, cereals prices rose by 5.26 per cent, pulses 4.44 per cent, wheat by 6.49 per cent and rice by 3.86 per cent. Milk prices jumped by 24.88 per cent during the week compared to the same period last year, while fruit prices rose 15.65 per cent.
