Food inflation declines 9.03 per cent for week ended Aug 6

Country's food inflation has declined to 9.03 per cent for the week ended 06th August, from 9.90 per cent a week earlier. Data released by the Commerce Ministry on Thursday said this happened on account of decline in the prices of vegetables and protein-based foodstuff. However, inflation in non-food articles, which include fibres, oil seeds and minerals, rose to 16.07 per cent from 15.05 per cent in the previous week.Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee expressed hope that the inflation will moderate in coming months and will come down to 5.5 percent. Talking to reporters outside Parliament Mr. Mukherjee said that with the good monsoon the food inflation will also come down.
