The Union Minister for Agriculture Mr. Sharad Pawar has said that the foodgrain production in 2010-11 has reached a record level of 241.6 million tonnes as per the latest crop estimates. He said this while speaking at a National Conference on Rabi Campaign in New Delhi.
He said that record production was achieved in the case of wheat, pulses, oil seeds and cotton. Elaborating on the farm growth, the Minister said that during the quarter ending March this year, farm output achieved an impressive growth rate of 7.5 per cent. He said that Agriculture and Allied Sector also grew at 6.6 per cent in the last fiscal.
Mr. Pawar said that the strategies for enhancing agriculture sector have been working well and the country would be able to achieve the targeted 4 per cent growth in agriculture. He said that monsoon in this season is very encouraging and the timely widespread rainfall across the country will help enhancing production during this Rabi season.
