The food grain production is expected to touch 115 million tonnes this year along with an increase in production of sugarcane, oilseeds and cotton. According to Agriculture Ministry, the food grain production is expected to increase by eleven million tonnes this fiscal. The higher production is attributed to Government's initiative to mobilize higher investments, increase in Minimum Support Price, and timely and adequate supply of inputs like seeds, fertilizers and credit and extension of Green Revolution to eastern states to bridge the yield gap.AIR Correspondent reports that the agriculture and allied sectors grew by 4.4 percent in July-September this year compared to 0.9 percent same time last year. The sector registered a growth of 2.5 percent in the first quarter of this fiscal. Spices production grew by 11 percent, while fruits and vegetables registered a growth of 26 and 22 percent respectively.
