Folk singer Rameswar Pathak passes away

Legendary folk singer and recipient of the Sangeet Natak Academy Award Rameswar Pathak died in Guwahati on Friday after prolonged illness. He was 72. A teacher by profession, Pathak hailed from an interior village at Nagaon in Barpeta district of lower Assam. A familiar name to the listeners of All India Radio, Rameshwar Pathak has innumerable famous folk songs to his credit. He shared the stage with legendary artistes Manna Dey, Shyamal Mitra, Purna Das and Arati Mukherji to scale new heights in the world music.Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and various cultural organisations have condoled the death of Rameswar Pathak.
