Fodder scam: CBI judge rejects Lalu's petition challenging trial

The court of special CBI judge A K Mishra today rejected Lalu Prasad's petition challenging trial in a case related to the multi-crore fodder scam in which the RJD chief is an accused. Lalu Prasad had moved the plea to quash trail in this case and also in the case of misappropriation of funds in Chaibasa treasury. In his plea Lalu has mentioned that he has already been convicted for misappropriation of funds from Chaibasa treasury. Lalu's counsel Prabhat Kumar had pleaded that there is no provision for double sentence in the same case or case with similar charges and accusations. The court has rejected the petition. However, the counsel said he would move the high court. Lalu Prasad and 45 others were convicted by a special CBI court in Ranchi in September 2013 in a fodder scam case in which he was accused of fraudulently withdrawing crores of rupees from Chaibasa treasury in Jharkhand. The court had sentenced him to jail for five years following which the RJD chief was disqualified from Lok Sabha and also barred from contesting elections. Lalu Prasad was granted bail in December 2013.
