FM to chair 17th meeting of the GST Council tomorrow

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will chair the 17th meeting of the GST Council in New Delhi tomorrow to finalise tax rates on lottery as well as rules relating to e-way bill and anti-profiteering measures. <br/><br/>The one-day meeting will be attended by the Finance Ministers of different States and Union Territories. The main agenda of the meeting include approval of draft GST Rules and related Forms for advance ruling, assessment and audit. The GST Council had in April come out with the draft e-way bill rules that made it necessary for any movement of goods, within or outside the state, having value of more than 50,000 rupees to be registered with the GST-Network (GSTN) website.<br/><br/>The council has already finalised tax rates on almost all goods and services in the bracket of zero, 5, 12, 18 and 28 percent. In its last meeting, the council had reduced tax levels on 66 goods including agarbatti, packaged food and insulin, as against representations received for 133 items. Composition amount under GST was also raised to 75 lakh rupees for traders, manufacturers, restaurants against earlier 50 lakh.'<br/><br/>The demand for exempting assistive devices, special equipment, Braille papers and other related items from the proposed Goods and Services Tax will be put before GST Council's meeting in New Delhi tomorrow. This assurance was given by Minister of State for Finance, Arjun Ram Meghwal during a meeting with delegation of National Federation of the Blind today. <br/><br/>In a press release, Federation's General Secretary S K Rungta said, Mr. Meghwal assured that it will be insured that equipments used by Divyang including blind are exempted under the new tax regime. Social Justice Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot was also present during the meeting.
