FM meets CMs of western and central region and PSU bank chiefs

Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is now meeting with Chief Ministers of Western and Central region and PSU bank chiefs in Mumbai. The meeting assumes importance as it will discuss a wide range of economic issues concerning the country and the states. It will also discuss the progress of Centrally-sponsored schemes, state-wise flow of credit to the agriculture sector, credit-deposit ratio and loan to weaker section of society among others. <br/> The progress of UPA II’s flagship programmes such as Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme, Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana, Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana etc in each state will also be reviewed. The thrust will be on discussing strategies to ensure inclusive growth.<br/> Chief Ministers of Western and Central region and heads of public sector financial institutions like the NABARD, SIDBI, National Housing Bank (NHB), IIFCL, IBA and Exim Bank are participating in the meeting. The participation of Chief Ministers has been added to broaden the scope of meeting and it is expected that their feedback and suggestions would help fine tune the implementation of flagship programmes. <br/> This meeting is a significant departure from the earlier practice of meeting the Banks’ heads in New Delhi. Early this month, Mr.Mukherjee had met CMs of Eastern states along with public sector bank chiefs in Patna to step up government's efforts to spread banking services across remote districts of the country.<br/>
