Finance Minister Arun Jaitely has justified the government decision to hike passenger fare and freight charges of Railways saying that it is difficult but a correct decision. In a Facebook post, Jaitely said that the Indian Railways for the last few years have been running at a loss and the only way that Railways can survive is when users pay for the facilities that they avail. He said the country must decide whether it wants a world-class railway or a ramshackled one.Jaitley said that the NDA government has only implemented the decision taken by the UPA government on fare hike. He added that the Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda has taken a challenging decision as the choice before him was whether to allow the Railways to bleed or implement the decision of pervious government.
