Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has blamed the top leadership of the Congress for stalling the Goods and Services Tax, GST Bill in the Rajya Sabha, saying problem lies only with a few individuals and not the entire party. Speaking at an event in Mumbai yesterday, the Minister said some people get sadistic pleasure in obstruction, as most of the leaders of other parties are supportive of the key tax reform legislation.

Stating that even UPA allies like the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Nationalist Congress Party and the Janata Dal United are supporting the Bill, Mr Jaitley said there is a complete coalition of those in support but only the Congress is the naysayer. The Constitutional Amendment Bill, GST is stuck in the Upper House because of the stiff opposition from the the Congress as the ruling National Democratic Alliance does not have enough numbers there.

Speaking on the issue of economic growth, Finance Minister said, it is a hard reality that the rest of the world has slowed down but the India has potential to grow at 7.5 percent. He said to add an extra 1 to 1.5 percent growth to get the cutting edge, would depend on several factors like monsoon and global growth. He added that the government is working in the direction of taking India to a high growth path.
