FM hints at possible vote against Sri Lanka at UNHRC

India says, if the US resolution on Srilanka contains a demand for credible investigation, the government will support it.

Addressing a public meeting at Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Mr Chidambaram hinted at a possible vote against Srilanka at the UN human Rights Council UNHRC later this month.

Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office, V. Narayanasamy also told Reporters in New Delhi that the government is committed to the protection of Sri Lankan Tamils and the Prime Minister will take a call as and when required.

DMK President Karunanidhi has again stressed the need for an independent international probe into the alleged war crimes committed by Sri Lankan Forces against Tamils during the last phase of the war with LTTE in Sri Lanka.
