FM emphasizes need to upgrade social sector programmes & their delivery mechanisms<br/>

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today emphasized the need to upgrade the social sector programmes and their delivery mechanisms. Holding pre-budget consultation with the representatives of social sector groups in New Delhi , Mr. Jaitley stressed the need to ensure that the benefits of these programmes reach the poor and marginalized sections of the society. He said that social sector groups can play an important role in taking positive advantage of demographic dividend.During the meeting, various suggestions were received from the representatives of the sector including higher budgetary allocation for disabled people, higher allocation to promote use of renewable energy, setting-up of a Special Purpose Vehicle by Public Sector Banks, universalize the pension for all the poor and extension of Rashtriya Swasthya Beema Yojana to all the districts. Earlier, in his consultation with the representatives of agriculture sector, the Finance Minister said that the concerns of agriculture sector are high on the priority of the government. Mr. Jaitely said, despite the constraints of the economy, the government will try its best to boost this sector.During the meeting, representatives of the sector made various suggestions including establishing a Kissan TV Channel to create awareness among farmers about new technologies, government programmes and quality parameters. They also gave suggestions about timely decision on Minimum Support Price at cost of production plus 50 per cent, efficient procurement policy, setting-up of boards for different commodities and water conservation as a national priority with focus on drip and sprinkler irrigation.
