Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today discussed issues including, NPAs, credit growth and financial inclusion with heads of Public sector banks in New Delhi. Talking to reporters after chairing a quarterly Performance Review Meeting with the Chief Executive Officers and Managing Directors of Public Sector Banks and Financial Institutions, Mr Jaitley said, banks have been asked to explain reports of one rupees being deposited in Jan Dhan accounts to reduce zero balance accounts. He said, Rs. 42,000 crore have been deposited in 24 crore Jan Dhan Accounts mostly belonging to weaker sections. He said, this huge amount cannot come from one rupee deposits.During the meeting, Mr. Jaitley also reviewed the overall Performance of Public Sector Banks in current Financial Year and last quarter in particular. The Finance Minister also reviewed the progress of credit and growth and asset quality especially with regard to Priority sectors.
