Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Monday called upon the self help groups, farmers and entrepreneurs to open bank accounts and avail loan facilities for their business and agricultural needs.He said bank branches, which once used to exist in big cities and towns, have now come to the villages to help people, and the local public should also support the banks.He spoke while inaugurating the 1762nd branch of Corporation Bank in Tamil Nadu. He also mentioned that rural roads are being laid with NABARD assistance for improving infrastructure in villages. Chidambaram has said that 50,000 persons will be employed in banks all over the country in a year. Inaugurating the 3001st branch of Indian Overseas Bank near Pudukottai Kothakottai in Tamil Nadu today he said that the profession of Bank officials and teachers are most important for nation building. Earlier inaugurating Corporation Bank branch in Dharmapatti near Sivaganga the Union Minister said that the UPA government is providing banking facilities in rural areas by opening new public sector bank branches. He said that new rural roads are being laid with NABARD assistance for improving infrastructure in villages.
