The Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has asked the Public Sector Banks to hike their lending to employment generating sectors including agriculture and small and medium enterprises. At a meeting with Chief Executives of these banks in New Delhi on Wednesday evening, Mr. Mukherjee also asked them to address the needs of borrowers of housing loans up to 10 lakh rupees. He expressed hope that lending to minorities would rise to the target of 15 per cent by the end of the current fiscal. Highlighting the role of the public sector banks in achieving the target of inclusive growth, the Finance Minister asked them to rapidly scale up efforts to reach banking to the inaccessible regions of the country and asked them to make concerted efforts for provision of Kisan Credit Cards and make NREGA accounts in rural branches operational for credit off-take also. <br/> <br/>
