The Union Finance Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee has instructed nationalised banks to give loans to women self help groups on priority basis for their economic development. Addressing a conference of West Bengal Mahila Congress in Kolkata today, Mr. Murkherjee referred to role of the UPA Government at the Centre for economic upliftment of women in the country. The Union Finance Minister stressed the need for proper propaganda on various welfare schemes being implemented by the Centre for child and women development. Mr. Mukerjee admitted that West Bengal is one of the States who is lagging behind to implement National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme. The President of the All India Women Congress, Dr. Prava Rao also spoke on the occasion.<br/>
