Flood threat looms over many districts of UP

In Uttar Pradesh many districts of Terai and Eastern region are facing threat of flood as the major rivers including Ganga, Ghaghra, Sharda and Rapti are in spate due to heavy rain in their catchments. Ghaghra and Rapti have touched the danger mark at several places. The people living near the riverbanks have been evacuated to safer places in some districts. Ten to thirty centimeters of rainfall has been recorded in some of western and Terai districts. The met department has predicted rain or thundershowers at many places in almost all divisions of the state. The level of River Ghaghra has crossed the danger mark in Barabanki, Faizabad and Gonda districts. Several mountain rivulets are in spate in terai and eastern districts due to heavy rain in the heights of Nepal. Five villages have been affected in Sitapur district due to release of water from Banbasa barrage. About two dozen villages each in Pilibhit and Bareilly have become affected due to spate in various rivers. The district administrations of the concerned districts are making necessary arrangements to cope up with the calamity.
