In Orissa, major rivers including Mahanadi, Rushikulya, Brahmani, Subarnarekha, Tel, Hati are rising and hovering near the danger mark in many areas. Many villages in Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Nowarangpur and Malkanigiri, Kandhamal have been marooned following incessant rain in the last 48 hours. The situation is worst in Kerandimal village of Kotagumuda block in Nowarangpur district, where 2000 marooned villagers including a large number of school children were rescued early this morning. Similarly, Hati river is flowing above the danger level near Junagarh in Kalahandi district, while Tel river is flowing near the danger level. Communication between Nowrangpur-Koraput, Berhampur-Phulbani and Kotpad-Jagdalpur has been cut off as flood water is flowing over the bridges.The state administration has sent Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams to the marooned areas to rescue the people. Adequate relief materials, medical teams have also been sent to the affected areas.The state government has said that one person has died due to the flood.
