The flood situation has worsened in North India as incessant rain continued to lash the region. More than 100 people have died in rain related incidents in the northern part of the country during past few days. At least 14 people died in rain related incidents in Uttar Pradesh yesterday as heavy rain continued to lash the state. Flood has affected more than 1,000 villages, mostly in western Uttar Pradesh, out of which the situation in 47 of them is grave. Ganga and Ramganga are flowing above the danger level at many places while the water level in river Yamuna is rising alarmingly.In Uttarakhand, a large number of tourists including pilgrims and foreigners are stranded at different places due to landslide. A number of important roads remained blocked for the last week. The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has announced 500 crore rupees as immediate relief for the flood and landslide victims of Uttarakhand. The monsoon has regained momentum in most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, resulting in a flood-like situation in many areas. Some 60 villages along the embankments of Yamuna and Sutlej are facing a grim situation as authorities issued a red alert. As a precautionary measure, residents of some of these villages were shifted to safer places.In Himachal Pradesh, torrential rain wrecked havoc triggering landslides, uprooting trees and damaging houses and roads. One person died and two others were injured when they were hit by a boulder at Nathpa Jhulla in tribal kinnaur district. Around 150 tourists are stranded at Sangla in Kinnaur as the main link road is blocked due to massive landslides. Local authorities have closed all schools in kinnaur today. In Rajasthan, many places received widespread rainfall with Sriganganagar recording 17.5 mm rainfall.
