Flood situation worsens in Assam

Over two lakh people are reeling under the fury of floods in 11 districts. <br />''<br />''Three persons lost their lives due to floods and landslides. NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed in rescue works at Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts.  <br />''<br />''Several rivers including the Brahmaputra are flowing above the danger level. Flood waters inundated several roads, causing disruption in road communication. <br />''<br />''In Bihar, an of heavy to extremely heavy rain has been sounded in the state for the next four days. Officials of Meteorological Centre, Patna said, more than 21 cm rainfall is expected tomorrow and Friday in some places.<br />''<br />''Heavy rain occurred in Muraliganj of Madhepura district which received 23 cm rain in the past 24 hours.<br />''<br />''Due to incessant rain in catchment areas of Gandak, Kosi, Mahananda, Bagmati and Ganga, the water level has touched the danger mark at several places. Flood situation worsens in Assam

In Assam, around 1 lakh 35 thousand people have been affected by floods in eight districts, while the Karimganj district of Barak Valley is worst affected. Over four thousand homeless people shifted to relief camps. Most of the rivers of Barak valley are flowing above the danger level. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that the Assam State Disaster Management Authority said flood has affected crop area of 13 hundred hectares. Flood water also affects cattle stock and damaged road communication at many areas of the Barak valley. <br/><br/>The total number of flood-affected people in the Karimganj district is around 1 lakh 21thousand. The district administration has set up 39 relief camps and distributed more than 8 hundred 65 quintals of rice to the flood victims. <br/><br/>An emergency review meeting was also held at Cachar district. The meeting was to review the preparedness regarding flood, response strategy and also to alert concern departments to be prepared because all the rivers of the district showing rising trend.

State Disaster Management Authority in Guwahati said that 8 districts have been affected in current surge of water. Several rivers in the Barak valley are flowing above the danger level. <br/><br/>Flood water also affected cattle stock and disrupted road communication at many areas. On the other hand, 82 relief camps and distribution centres have been set up at five flood hit districts. Over 4 thousand people have been shifted to relief camps. District administration and civil society organizations are distributing food items among flood affected people. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that as per official report, several rivers in the Barak valley are flowing above the danger level. Flood situation worsens in Assam

In Assam, the over all flood situation in the Karimganj district of Barak Valley has deteriorated further following submergence of more new areas by the surging flood waters of Singla, Longai and Kushiara rivers. <br/><br/>The district administration has alerted the Border Security Forces (BSF) to keep in ready to assist the administration in rescue and relief works. 63 country boats have been pressed into service in relief and rescue operations by the district administration in the flood affected areas. <br/><br/>Over two lakh ten thousand people in the district in over three hundred villages of the district have been affected by this year’s first wave of flood in the valley. Vehicular movement on Assam-Agartala national highway has been disrupted as the flood water has submerged a portion of the highway at Patherkandi area of the district.<br/>
