Flood situation worsens in Assam, landslides kill 3

In Assam, 3 lakh 81 thousand people of 17 districts are reeling under flood. Flash flood submerged new areas in Dhmaji, Sonitpur, Morigaon and Barpeta district today. The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at five places including Guwahati. Three people were killed in landslide at Dhirenpara in Guwahati last night. Landslide and flood also cut off Dima Hasao district from rest of the state. Raging water swept away a railway bridge in the district yesterday, following which train services in Lumding-Silchar and Agartala-Lumding have been suspended. 4 trains, Up and Down- Cachar Express and Lumding- Agartala Express with more than 2000 passengers were stranded in Dima Hasao district since yesterday morning due to landslide. Restoration work is being carried out by North East Frontier Railway. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi instructed his ministerial colleagues to monitor the relief and rescue works in their concerned district.
District administrations have set up control room and closely monitoring the rescue and relief works. Chief Minister instructed the district administration to take necessary arrangement to shift the people from vulnerable areas to safer places as most of the rivers are flowing above danger level. Rescue operation is being carried out at Maaskhowa in Dhemaji district by Army and Disaster Response Force as flash flood submerged 45 villages today. District administrations have set up 95 relief camps. Medical and Veterinary teams are also being deployed. Helicopters and boats are also being pressed into service for relief and rescue works. Almost 80 percent areas of the Kaziranga National Park are reeling under flood.
