The flood situation has worsened in several districts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh as swollen rivers breached embankments at many places in northern parts of Bihar. An alert has been issued in view of breaching of embankments.<br/><br/>Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi are undertaking aerial survey of the worst affected Gopalganj, East and West Champaran districts.<br/><br/>Over 96 lakh people spread over 16 districts are reeling under the impact of unprecedented floods. 106 people have so far died in flood related incidents. Standing crops in over 4.50 lakh hectare has been washed away. Over one thousand huts were destroyed.<br/><br/>All schools in the flood affected areas have been closed till August 19. The state government has pressed into service of 50 rescue teams comprising of columns of the army, NDRF and SDRF, which include around over two thousand one hundred trained personnel in the affected districts with 276 boats.<br/><br/>Three helicopters are engaged in air dropping of dry food packets in the flood affected areas. 504 relief camps have been set up in which over one lakh thirty thousand people are taking shelter.<br/><br/>Train services continue to remain disrupted, as flood waters overtopped railway tracks at several places in North Bihar. Knee -deep water is flowing over the railway tracks at a few places and caused extensive damages to rail line and signalling system.<br/><br/>In Uttar Pradesh, flood situation is still grim in several districts. Lakhs of people are forced to displace and taking shelter in relief camps. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has visited to many districts of eastern and tarai regions of flood affected districts and reviewed the rescue and relief works being conducted in the flood affected areas.<br/><br/>Our correspondent reports that 22 districts of eastern and Tarai regions are affected with flood and about 1700 villages are facing flood fury. Of them about 1 thousand villages are marooned.<br/><br/>A total of 33 people have lost their lives in flood related incidents and standing crops in above 16 Lakh hectare land have been distorted. Rapti, Gandak, Budi Gandank, Ghaghara and Ramganga rivers are flowing above danger marks at several places. <br/><br/>Continuous rains and water released from different barrages have increased the water level of many rivers. The government has set up about 625 flood out post to provide relief to affected people.<br/><br/>Medical teams, veterinary doctors, revenue officials and officers from public distribution departments are deployed at flood pit posts. 10 NDRF and 13 PAC teams are deployed in relief and rescue operations.
