Flood situation still grim in many districts of UP; Yamuna recedes below danger mark in Delhi

In Uttar Pradesh flood situation is still grim in several districts of Western, Eastern and Terai regions of the state. The river Ganga is flowing above the danger mark in Farrukhabad, Kannauj. The Ramganga is flowing above the danger mark in Shahjahanpur. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports, Army is conducting relief and rescue works at Hardoi, Shahjahanpur, Badaun and Kannauj districts. In Kannauj several villages are marooned with flood water of Ganga, Kali and Eshan rivers. More than three dozen schools are closed in the district. In Mathura flowing over danger mark Yamuna has inundated most of the temples and Bathing Ghats on its banks. More than 200 villages are affected in the district. In Agra flood water of river Yamuna has entered in residential colonies under Dayalbag area. River is rising in the district. Alert has been issued to several villages under Bah tehsil of the district due to rising trend of Yamuna. Train movement on Bareilly Aligarh section is still suspended. Road Traffic in several flood affected districts is disrupted on many routs as flood water is running on roads. The state BJP has demanded Chief Minister Mayawati to convene all party meeting to discuss the worsening flood situation as the aerial surveys will not serve the purpose. Meanwhile six more persons died in rain-related incidents taking the toll to 392. Four children drowned in Ballia, while two persons have died due to wall collapse in Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar during last 24 hours. The flood threat in the National capital has ended as the water level of Yamuna river has come down below the danger mark. According to the Delhi Flood Control Department, the current water level of the Yamuna-edge is 204.60 meters which is 23 Cm below the danger mark of 204.83 meters. Earlier, the river had inundated various parts of the low lying areas in the city as it was flowing above the danger level from the last 10 days. In Uttarakhand, road connections leading to state headquarter Dehradun have been restored. The road connections were snapped due to natural calamity in the past few days. AIR correspondent reports that the District Authorities are engaged in clearing and repairing the roads with the help of Border Road Organisation.
