Flood situation remains grim in some parts of country

There is no let up in the flood situation in some part of the country. In Uttar Pradesh, the intensity of flood has come down in western parts but the situation remains grim in eastern districts. More than 60 villages in Barabanki and Gonda have been flooded due to one Kilometre long breach in an embankment. The state irrigation minister Nasimuddin Siddiqui visited the affected areas and took stock of the situation. Chief minister Ms Mayawati has instructed the authorities to conduct rescue and relief operation on a war footing basis. A report-In Bihar the flood situation in north parts of the state has worsened following discharge of over two lakh forty thousand cusec water from Gandak barrage.AIR Patna correspondent reports that the water level of Kosi, Bagamati and Gandak is steadly increasing due to heavy rains in catchement areas in Nepal. In Gujarat the intermittent rain is continuing in Kutch and Surashtra region. AIR Bhuj correspondent reports that road transportation and electricity supply were disrupted in rural areas of the region.
