In Assam, the flood situation in four districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and Golaghat remained grim affecting over 3 lakh population. According to a Central Water Commission report, the river Brahmaputra and most of its tributaries were flowing above the danger level in these districts following heavy rainfalls in neighbouring hilly areas of Arunachal Pradesh. The flood waters entered the one-horned Rhino famous Kaziranga National Park in Golaghat district.The low-lying areas of Kohora, Bagori and Burha Pahar ranges of the National Park have been submerged. The Bokakhat and Koliabor Sub Divisional authorities have imposed prohibitory order under section 144 to ensure protection of Park animals. In the worst affected Dhemaji district, flood devastation of Siang River continues in 67 villages.Over sixty thousand people in the district have been affected in the current wave of floods. Around 1500 marooned people are taking shelter in high lands in different parts of the district. 35 relief camps are being set up in the flood ravaged villages in Lakhimpur district. The Government has dispatched National Disaster Response Force for relief and rescue of the marooned people in the flood-hit Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts.
