Flood situation remains grim in Assam

The flood situation in Assam’s nine districts remained grim, with the water levels of major rivers rising and inundating vast tracts of land, following incessant rainfall in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal.

 

In Assam around two lakh people have been affected in 386 villages in the districts of Nagaon, Karimganj, Hailakandi, West Karbi Anglong, Cachar, Hojai, Golaghat, Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong District due to flood and rain. Over 35000 people have taken shelter in 95 relief camps. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, Two persons have died so far in the devastating floods across the state. Train services cancelled or short terminated due to landslides along the HalfLong -Badarpur rail route.
 
Meanwhile, Indian Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Dibrugarh, Karimganj, Cachar, Hailakandi, Dima Hasao, Dhubri and South Salmara district.
 
Rescue operations have been intensified in flood-affected districts. Various agencies including SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, local administration and civil defense are engaged in rescue operations.

Flood situation remains grim in Assam

In Assam, flood situation remains grim in 15 districts as most of the rivers are maintaining a rising trend. <br/><br/>Over three lakh people are affected in current spell of flood in 15 districts of Assam. NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed in relief and rescue operations. Two persons reportedly swept away at different places during the last 24 hours. <br/><br/>Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia held a review meeting through Video conference with Deputy Commissioners of affected districts yesterday and has ordered to provide all supports. <br/><br/>Relief camps have been set up at seven districts including at Majuli, Dhemaji and Chirang.

Flood situation remains grim in Assam

In Assam, flood situation further worsened in the state today as new areas have been inundated at Lakhimpur, South Salmara, Sonitpur and Majuli districts. Over 2 lakh people have been affected at South Salmara district today.<br/><br/>NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed in rescue works at Lakhimpur district. Over 200 villages are affected at Lakhimpur district alone. Road communication affected at NH 15 and 52 at Lakhimpur. <br/><br/>Released of excess water by North Eastern Electric Power Corporation, NEEPCO, has made the situation critical at Lakhimpur. Two persons have died due to landslide at Lakhimpur. Flood water over-topped NH 31 (C) at Kokrajhar district and restoration work is on.<br/><br/>On the other hand, ferry services have been suspended today at Majuli. Flood situation also worsened at Kaziranga national park forcing animals to migrate highlands. <br/><br/>Forest minister visited the park today. Thousands of people are taking shelter at relief camps. Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal will visit Morigaon district today to take stock of the situation.

Two persons have died due to landslide at Lakhimpur. <br/><br/>On the other hand, ferry services have been suspended today at Majuli. Flood situation also worsened at Kaziranga national park forcing animals to take shelter at highlands .
