The flood situation in north Bihar remains critical while it has improved in the central parts of the state. Sudden increase in the discharge of water in river Kosi yesterday caused heavy pressure at many places on the eastern embankment in Supaul district. In Darbhanga, rivers Baghmati and Kamla Balan are also on the rise. Flood water has entered many villages of east Champaran and Sheohar district. Water has submerged many major roads including Muzzafarpur- Sitamarhi and Motihari -Sheohar roads.In Muzaffarpur, the dam over the river Lakhandei has developed cracks at nine places due to which Aurai, Katra and Gaighat blocks are inundated. People of these areas are being rescued to safer places. Relief and rescue operations are on. The State Water Resources Department has reported that the situation is under control. Meanwhile, following a fall in the discharge of Sone river, the flood situation in Central Bihar has imporved relatively. Though flowing still above the danger mark, the Ganga has also assumed a declining trend. According to reports, the situation in these areas are expected to ease further.
