Flood situation in some districts of Upper Assam has slightly improved but condition remains grim in parts of Lower Assam. Flood water inundated hundreds of villages in Morigaon, Barpeta, Dhubri and Goalpara of Lower Assam. Around 100 villages are inundated at Jaleshawar and other parts of Goalpara district. Administration imposed ban on the movement of ferry and boat service in Goalpara district from 5 pm to 5am indefinitely. The Brahmaputra is rising above danger level at some places but it shows falling trend. The flood condition in Dhemaji, Tinsukia and Lakhimpur has slightly improved.30 lakh people in 19 districts have been affected in the third wave of flood in the state. Four lakh 44 thousand people are staying at around 1200 camps. District administration has provided necessary relief materials. Medical teams have also been deployed.11 lakh livestock were also affected in flood. The surging waters deluged two lakh 27 thousand hectares of agriculture land. Schools are yet to resume classes in Majuli Island. Some schools are also remaining closed in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Morigaon.Meanwhile, Assam government instructed Wildlife’s Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Suresh Chand to inquire the chopped off a rhino’s horn at Kaziranga National park yesterday. Today he has met senior officials of the park and took stock of the situation. A medical team is taking care of the wounded rhino. BJP and other organizations condemned the incident. The carcasses of two rhinos were also recovered from the park during last 24 hours. The recent flood inundated most parts of the Kaziranga National park.
