In Uttar Pradesh, the situation remains grim in several eastern districts. Gonda and Barabanki remained worst affected where an embankment was breached yesterday. The government has suspended three engineers of the irrigation department for dereliction of duties in maintaining the embankment. The rivers Ghaghra, Rapti and their tributaries have started receding but their level is still above the danger mark in Barabanki, Ayodhya and Gorakhpur. In western UP, barring few places, the river Ganga, Ramganga and Yamuna have started receding. About 93 villages in Kanshi Ram Nagar have become flood affected. AIR Gorakhpur correspondent reports that the administration has speeded up the rescue and relief operations: The situation has become grim in Mau, Gorakhpur and Deoria districts where more than 200 villages are reeling under severe flood. The relief operation is on but the scarcity of boat and flood preparedness is seen lacking. Makeshift arrangements have been made to shelter the flood affected people. Still a lot of people are living under open sky. .
