In Uttar Pradesh, the flood situation remains grim in Barabanki and Gonda. About 140 villages in both the districts are still facing flood fury. The National Disaster Management team is engaged in relief work to minimise the trauma of flood. The villagers of badly affected villages are being rehabilitated at nearby higher villages. Meanwhile the rivers in eastern UP continue their falling trend barring Ganga in Ballia, Ghazipur and adjoining areas. The level of Ghaghra, Rapti and Burhi Rapti is above the danger mark at several places. AIR correspondent Salman haider reports from Gorakhpur that due to heavy current of the river Ghaghra, the water is gushing in new areas of Gonda. Many villagers have lost all their belongings and are fully dependent of the relief provided by the government. Utensils, clothings, foodgrain, fodder and other essential items are being distributed among them. Cooked food is also being provided to the people living in relief camps. Meanwhile the people living in lowlying areas near Rapti basin in Gorakhpur have demanded from the government to resettle them on higher places.
