The flood situation is still grim in several districts of Odisha. Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik conducted an aerial survey of five flood-hit districts and announced 15 days relief for the affected people in the worst-hit districts of Khurdha, Puri, Cuttack, Kendrpada and Jagatsinghpur. Meanwhile, though the water level in Mahanadi river system has started to recede marginally, lakhs of people in low lying areas of the coastal districts are still marooned.<br />''<br />''On the other hand, the IMD has predicted that low pressure areas will concentrate into a depression and trigger heavy rainfall in most of the flood-affected districts from today.<br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">Special Relief Commissioner, Pradeep Jena said 11 teams of the NDRF, 12 teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force and 52 teams of Odisha Fire Service have been deployed in flood-affected districts. He said that over 4.67 lakhs people in 1,757 villages in 10 districts have been affected due to flood.</span><br />

The flood situation in Odisha continues to be grim with thousands of marooned people starving for relief even after five days. Though major rivers like Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, Baitarani have started receding, Brahmani river is flowing above the danger level. Large tracts of areas in Jajpur, Kendrapada and a number of other districts are still marooned in the flood water. Hundreds and hundreds of people have taken shelter over river embankments, house roofs and trees as flood water has entered or damaged their houses. Road communication to many areas in Keonjhar, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak and Kendrapada have been cut off due to flood water.At least, 17 people have so far lost their lives in the second phase of flood in Odisha that affected more than 22 lakh people in 10 of the 30 district in the state. According to reports from the Odisha government, 1,114 villages are still marooned in flood water, while 3,128 villages and 11 cities have been badly affected in the second phase of flood. The Odisha government has also admitted its ability in providing relief to many marooned areas due to high level of flood water. Six helicopters which have been engaged in relief operation are not able to cover the vast flood-affected areas in the state. A 4-member Central team is visiting Odisha on Monday to assess loss due to the current flood.Odisha is facing a second high flood in the last 25 days with the first flood in the Mahanadi river system and in other rivers. At least 39 people lost their lives in the first flood.
