In Odisha, the flood situation continues to be alarming in large parts of Jajpur and Kendrapada districts. Hundreds of villages are still marooned by flood water with thousands of people living in pitiable conditions without relief since seven days. Many people of these areas are living in river embankments and other high lands as flood water has entered or damaged their houses.According to Water Resources Department Secretary of Odisha, Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, water has started receding in major rivers like Brahmani, Baitarani, Subarnarekha and Budhabalanga and flood situation is improving in a majority of affected-districts of Odisha.There is no fear to the river embankments, while road communications to flood-devastated Bari and Jajpur town in Jajpur district and Aul, Rajkanika and Rajnagar in Kendrapada district are likely to be restored by tomorrow evening. The Odisha government said, 27 people have so far died in the second phase of flood with 3 persons still missing. A total of about 23 lakh people in 3,459 villages and 12 cities in 10 districts have been affected in the flood.In the first phase, floods in Mahanadi river system in the second week of this month had affected 3.4 million people in 19 districts, causing 41 human casualty and a loss of Rs 2,122 crore to the State.
