Flood situation in Karimganj district in Assam remains grim

In Assam, the over all flood situation in the Karimganj district of Barak Valley remains grim today following submergence of more new areas by the surging flood waters of Singla, Longai and Kushiara rivers. The District administration has intensified relief and rescue operations of the flood marooned people. 70 country boats have been pressed into service. <br/> According to official sources, over two lakh thirty thousand flood affected people are taking shelters in over 200 relief camps set up by the district administration. So far 820 quintals of rice, 150 quintals of pulse and 55 bags of salts were distributed among the flood marooned people. The first wave of this year’s flood in the valley has damaged crop lands of 12 thousand hectares. The current flood has so far claimed the lives of two persons in Loyairpoya block the district. <br/>AIR Silchar correspondent quoting central water commission sources reports that all the three major rivers of the district are flowing above danger marks.<br/> ‘<br/>
