Flood situation in Haryana's Yamunanagar dist aggravates further

In Yamunanagar district of Haryana flood situation has further aggravated after the Belgarh Bundh breached inunduating hundreds acres of crops today. This is second breach near Tajewala headworks at some distance from Lal Topi village, which has created havoc in the area. The residents of the affected villages Lakad, Namajpur, Kaniawal, Bhilpura etc are trying to plug the breach with stones and mud. A spokesman of the Irrigation Department said that widespread and heavy rains in the catchment area of river Yamuna the discharge in river Yamuna at Hathnikund Barrage was decreased to about 1,48,000 at 2.00 PM today. He said that the field staff of Irrigation Department along with District Administration in Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Faridabad and Palwal districts is on alert and is taking all possible measures for protection of the vulnerable sites.Meanwhile, Haryana Government has released funds amounting to over 1.53 crore rupees to various Deputy Commissioners to distribute relief for the damaged tubewells due to floods in the state. Besides, the Government has also released funds amounting to about. 11.31 crore rupees for distributing to the farmers whose crops were damaged due to floods. Deputy Commissioners of nine districts has further been instructed to conduct special girdawari for damaged crops due to recent rains.
