In Assam, the overall flood situation in Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts remained unchanged as most of the rivers are maintaining a steady trend. More than one lakh people in the two upper Assam districts have been affected by the current wave of flood. In the worst-affected Dhemaji district, the authorities have set up five relief camps at Jonai. Over fifty thousand affected people from 63 villages are taking shelter in these camps. Houses of five families have been washed away by the high current waters of the river Siang yesterday. In Lakhimpur district, around 68 thousand population in 65 villages have been affected in three revenue circles of North Lakhimpur, Naoboicha and Bihpuria. The disaster management authority has pressed into service engine boats and country boats for relief and rescue operations. The flood problem in the area has been multiplied due to release of excess water reportedly from the Ranganadi hydel Project at Yazali in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.
