Flood situation in Assam remains grim with Brahmaputra continuously flowing over the danger level at five places. <br/><br/>Our correspondent reports over 17 lakh people from 24 districts are marooned in current wave of flood. 2700 people have been evacuated in 7 districts by NDRF, SDRF and the police. <br/><br/>Additional rescue teams are being sent to affected areas. Two NDRF teams have been deployed at Majuli and two SDRF teams sent to Lahorighat at Morigaon district. <br/><br/>Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal yesterday visited the worst hit Majuli district and met people at the relief camp. He also Kaziranga national park and instructed Forest department to take step for the safety of the animals.

Flood situation in Assam remains grim

In Assam , the over all flood situation in Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts of Barak valley remains grim though the rivers started receding slowly. Many low-lying areas of the valley are still submerged by the flood water.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the direct rail connection between three districts of the valley along with neighbouring Tripura and Mizoram states with the rest of the country remains disrupted for the fourth consecutive day today following massive landslides at five different places in Badarpur-Haflong section of Northeast Frontier railway. <br/><br/>The railway personnel are working on war footing for restoration of train services in this section but rain hampers the works.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports, the over all flood situation in the three districts of Barak valley remains grim today though situation has been improving marginally in some areas. Supply of relief materials in all the flood affected areas of the valley is continuing in full swing. <br/><br/>In the worst flood hit Karimganj district of the valley, jawans of National Disaster Response Force have been assisting the district administration in this work. Besides, several voluntary organisations are also assisting in supplying succour to the flood victims. The flood has so far claimed eleven lives in the valley.<br/>
