In Assam, the overall flood situation continues to be grim in most of the districts. Nine people have died in flood related incident. Over 13 lakh people in around two thousand villages are displaced due to flood. Army rescued six thousand marooned people at Sootea in Sonitpur district. Air Force today air dropped 250 quintals food packets at Sootea and Majuli. 21 specialized flood relief teams of army have pressed into service in Sonitpur district. Flood water also submerged a few low lying areas of Guwahati city. Around two lakh 31 thousand people are staying at 166 relief camps. In Majuli, 41 jail inmates today shifted to Jorhat as flood water inundated most of the areas of the river island.87 medical teams have been deployed in five flood affected districts with medicines.Meanwhile, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who is in Japan on official tour, instructed his ministerial colleagues to visit the flood affected districts to oversee rescue and relief works.DoNER minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar visited Tinsukia district and took stoke of the situation. Opposition Asom Gana Parishad urged the Centre to release special fund for the affected districts.
