Flood situation in Assam improves

<span style="color: #222222;">In Assam, the flood situation in the state has improved today. However, 25 lakh people are still reeling under the fury of floods in 25 districts.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The death toll due to floods has gone up to 84. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited Mayong revenue circle at Morigaon district today to assess the flood situation. He took a boat ride along with two ministers Keshab Mahanta and Pijush Hazarika.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Mr. Sonowal has also met people at relief camps. The Chief Minister said that relief measures are being taken by the government in a war footing manner.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Meanwhile, the Information and Public Relation department of Assam detected a fake post in social media today which claimed that – the government has no fund to help people during floods and citizens could only help them.</span><br />''

Flood situation in Assam improves

As the flood situation has improved in Assam, steps are being taken to assess the damages. Talking to AIR, Forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma said that 253 animals including 20 rhinos were drowned to death at Kaziranga national park in current wave of flood. <br/><br/>Ms. Brahma said that it was the most devastating flood that hit the park after 1968. The minister said that altogether 358 casualties have been reported this year at Kaziranga due to flood. She however said that casulty to animal has not been reported from any others wildlife parks in the state. <br/><br/>Ms Brahma said that as per initial assessment flood water caused damages to roads and anti poaching camps to the tune of 10 crore rupees at Kaziranga. <br/><br/>The minister said that her priority would be to repair damaged infrastructure and also to construct highland areas for wild animals. On the other hand, Water Resource minister Keshab Mahanta said that breaches in river embankment have been reported at 26 places in 15 districts. <br/><br/>Mr. Mahanta said that he has written to the Chief Minister seeking a high level enquiry to the breach of Hatimura embankment at Koliabor. 70 persons died in the current wave of flood in Assam.<br/>

Flood situation in Assam improves

In Assam, flood situation is gradually improving due to respite from rains. <br/><br/>10 persons died during the last 24 hours taking the toll to 49 in current wave of flood. Overall 32 lakh people have been affected at 24 districts. <br/><br/>On the other hand, 1 lakh people are still taking shelter at relief camps. Nearly 3500 marooned people are evacuated to safer places today at Dhemaji, Barpeta and South Salmara districts by various agencies. <br/><br/>Flood water also receded at the World Heritage Site Kaziranga national park.<br/><br/>North East Frontier Railway has started restoration work of tracks in all the flood affected locations on war footing. <br/><br/>A press release issued in Guwahati informed that, Alipurduar Division track connection from Fakiragram to Dhubri has been restored today after completion of work. <br/><br/>Train services from Dhubri will be restored and DEMU services will be started from tomorrow. In the meanwhile a medical camp was conducted at Guwahati station for the passengers waiting in the station due to cancellation of train services. <br/><br/>North East Frontier Railway is running special trains from Guwahati to Dalkhola and From Dibrugarh to Guwahati for clearance of rush caused by cancellation of trains due to unprecedented flood.

Flood situation in Assam improves

The overall flood situation in Assam improved considerably today with rivers Brahmaputra, Barak and their tributaries showing a receding trend. According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority around 29,000 people are bearing the brunt of floods in 157 villages across 10 districts of the state. <br/><br/>The deluge-hit districts are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Morigaon, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar and Karimganj. The floods have claimed 76 lives so far this year. <br/><br/>More than 4,600 people are taking shelter in 23 relief camps in different districts.

Flood situation in Assam improves

<br/> In Assam , the over all flood situation in Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts of Barak Valley has further improved today following let up in rain in the past three days. The water levels of all the rivers of the valley are receding fast and only the low-lying areas of the valley are still under water.<br/> The largest river of the valley, Barak is flowing about one metre below the danger mark at Silchar while Kushiara river in Karimganj is still flowing about seventy centimetre above the danger level.<br/>
