Flood situation in Assam improves marginally
In Assam, with no heavy rainfall in the past 12-hour, the over all flood situation in Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts of Barak valley has improved marginally on Tuesday. Almost all the rivers of the valley are receding in the absence of rain in the catchment areas but Kushiara River in Karimganj district is still flowing over one metre above the danger mark.

The good sign of the improvement of the flood situation is the largest river of the valley, Barak has started receding fast and flowing about ten centimetres below danger level at Silchar Tuesday morning. The river Katakhal in Hailakandi district is also flowing below the danger level.

Over nine lakh people of the three districts of the valley have been affected by the flood. The flood causes extensive damages to standing crops and paddy fields. The agriculture department is working out a plan for distribution of seddlings to the flood affected farmers.

Medical camps have been opened to provide healthcare facilities among the flood victims. Medical teams have also been sent to flood marooned areas with medicines and other chemicals to prevent any outbreak of disease or epidemic.
